Australian Artist Brett Robin Wood's live performance has been described as "Charlie Chaplin meets Leonard Cohen". There's spontaneity, humour and a bunch of catchy tunes that speak of the curious ways of the human heart and the crazy maze of the mind, shedding light on the human experience. Think Billy Bragg, Jonathon Richman, Loudon Wainwright, Paul Kelly, Steve Poltz, Lou Reed, They Might Be Giants, The Shins, Ron Sexsmith, Papas Fritas, Talking Heads and you're in the musical territory.
Brett is a regular solo performer, and also plays with Accompanist Liz Frencham (Jigzag, Frencham-smith) who mingles her gorgeous bass and harmonies into Brett's Leunigesque musical storytelling. In his first album Likely Stories and his latest album, Curious Dream, Brett, with a bunch of fabulous musical cohorts, crafts his tunes into richly layered acoustic and folk-pop gems.
Brett has drawn audiences into his curious world at festivals including the Melbourne & Sydney Comedy Festivals, The Adelaide Fringe, Singapore Arts Festivals and a bunch of Australian Folk festivals including Nannup, Mount Beauty, the National, Coast fest, Illawarra & Yackandandah Folk Festivals. Brett has played at key venues like the Cat & Fiddle, the Harp Irish Pub, the Sandringham, cafechurch space & the Vanguard.
Brett began his performance adventure as an actor/writer/musician in community theatre, touring regional areas of NSW researching, writing and performing shows relevant to the area. He went on to work in professional theatre in Australia and Overseas. Brett is a twice NSW champion theatresports player and also performed in the hit improvisational theatre show 160 Characters.
Brett also wears a couple of other hats, working in the creative people development company Be Learning and as a teacher of acting at Actors Centre Australia.
Brett Robin Wood's evocative tunes leave you smiling at what it is to be alive
